Analysis of air compressor fire accidents

Summer is hot and rainy, and climate change is uncertain, making extreme weather very likely to occur. This is a high-incidence season for air compressor fires and explosions. Another one occurred not long ago, but fortunately it was discovered in time and no casualties were caused. Let us analyze the causes together to prevent similar accidents from happening again.


Possible causes of the accident:


(1) During the startup of the air compressor, the heat exhaust pipe was opened. At that time, strong winds accompanied by rainwater flowed back into the air compressor, causing a short circuit in the electrical part and a fire.


(2) The air compressor was not thoroughly maintained, and the joints and pipes in the oil system leaked oil, causing a lot of oil stains in the machine. When the electrical components short-circuited, the oil stains intensified the combustion and caught fire.


(3) During the startup of the air compressor, the exhaust temperature reached above 90 degrees. At this time, the lubricating oil temperature of the air compressor was also around 90 degrees. The open flame caused by the short circuit was also burning, and the double-layer heating of the internal and external temperatures was too high, causing the lubricating oil inside the oil system to burn.


(4) Since the heat exhaust pipe was not equipped with rainwater backflow prevention measures, a large amount of rainwater entered the air compressor, which was a major cause of electrical short circuit. Since the factory took the heat exhaust measure of installing galvanized iron air ducts in the air compressor workshop, the accumulated water in the workshop would flow down during heavy rain, and the external wind would push it into the air duct and flow into the machine.


Preventive measures:


(1) Rectify the exhaust duct to prevent rainwater from backflowing into the machine due to bad weather


(2) Regularly maintain and inspect the air compressor to ensure that the air compressor is clean and oil-free, and the temperature of the lubricating oil does not exceed the reasonable range during operation.


(3) Strengthen the inspection of the supporting facilities in the machine room, and immediately rectify any hidden dangers found to ensure that all indicators meet safety regulations.
