What causes abnormal discharge temperatures in Roots blowers

Given the operating principle of Roots blowers, the discharge temperature is generally higher than the intake temperature. A rough calculation for the discharge temperature is: intake temperature + pressure-related temperature rise. Abnormal discharge temperatures may be caused by the following factors:


1. Poor lubrication


Low-quality lubricating oil can lead to excessive mechanical wear and the generation of excess heat, thereby raising the discharge gas temperature.


2. Safety valve failure


The safety valve regulates the blower's pressure; it acts to adjust pressure when levels become excessive. If the safety valve fails, the pressure can rise too high, increasing the gas compression ratio and generating excessive heat, which raises the temperature of both the blower unit and the discharge gas.


3. Friction between blower components


Mechanical wear or substandard product quality—whether arising during operation or during the R&D and manufacturing stages—can aggravate mechanical friction and generate significant heat.


4. Rotor misalignment or skew


Deformation or tilting of the rotor disrupts the dynamic balance of the impellers. Friction between the impellers generates heat and raises the discharge temperature. Rotor imbalance is often accompanied by other issues, such as excessive pressure, noise, and vibration. If abnormal noise or vibration occurs during operation, the rotor should be inspected promptly.


5. Cramped installation space


If the installation space is too confined, heat dissipation is impaired, which in turn affects the discharge gas temperature.
