Troubleshooting Air Compressor Filters

An air compressor filter assembly consists of a housing and a filter element. It is connected to the air compressor’s intake valve via fittings and threaded piping, serving to remove dust, particulates, and other impurities from the incoming air. The appropriate air filter model is selected based on the air compressor's specific air intake capacity.

Fault Symptom: Filter Clogging

A clogged air filter leads to increased energy consumption and wasted electricity; it also becomes more susceptible to dust penetration. If excessive dust enters the air compressor, it can shorten the service life of the compressor oil and cause the oil-air separator to become clogged.

Troubleshooting/Maintenance:

1. The filter element is the core component of the filter. Made from specialized materials, it is a consumable part that requires dedicated maintenance and care.

2. After prolonged operation, the filter element will accumulate impurities, resulting in increased pressure drop and reduced airflow. In such cases, the filter must be cleaned promptly. 3. During cleaning, take care to ensure the filter element is not deformed or damaged.

The filter media (filter paper) is another critical component. High-quality filters typically use ultra-fine fiber paper impregnated with synthetic resin, which provides effective impurity filtration and high dust-holding capacity. The filter paper must also possess sufficient structural strength to withstand high-velocity airflow, ensuring consistent filtration efficiency and extending the equipment's service life.

The pore size of the filter paper is approximately 10 µm. It is generally recommended to remove and clean surface dust every 1,000 hours of operation; this should be done by blowing low-pressure air through the element from the inside out. The air filter is equipped with a differential pressure sensor; if the display panel indicates that the air filter is clogged, it must be cleaned or replaced.
